19th Century Superb French brassbound mahogany writing box.
A remarkable French c.1820 brass bound mahogany writing bx with brass handles to the sides, a brass shield top and key escutcheon and a fully working lock and tasselled key.The box is in superb original condition.
Open the box to reveal a green leather stationary rack with beautifully written french letters inside. The box has two inkwells and a deep lidded compartment for the centre that contains an old book and some nibs and feathers,take out the ink well to reveal two lids and some secret space underneath.unfold the box to reveal the original green leather writing surface with a beautiful satinwood compartment to the front, lift up the other half to discover several sections with an array of glass jars to the left, a pen slope to the middle and large section filled with all sorts of different things you can then take the tray out of the middle to see two brushes and a Combe.the inside interior is beautiful satinwood. It really is such a rare and stunning box, full of its original contents, it has so much character.
The box measures 43 x 28 and stands 22 cm high.
