19th century Coromandel writing slope, c.1860. Beautifully decorated box with a mother of pearl top and abalone key escutcheon. The inside of the box has a professionally re-leathered writing slope and houses an inkwell, nib slope and pen slope. It has a stationary rack to the inside of the lid and a section under the writing slope which has two secret drawers which work off a spring pressure point under the nib slope. The writing slope is in wonderful condition with a working lock and key. The box measures: 35.5cm in width by 24.5cm in depth and stands 17.5cm.
