This is a William IV Jewellery Box. The box measures: 25 cm x 19 cm and stands 12 1/2 cm tall, it has a working lock and key and sits on four brass bun feet,. The box has it's original tray with a pewter inlay. Open the box to reveal a professionally relined interior with hand marbled paper. There is a letter inside which suggests it was given probably in the nineteen twenties to a sister “M Johnson” as a present and the letter lists all the different nurses that contributed to the box. The box is pewter and mother of pearl inlaid to the corners, it's Brazilian Rosewood and is a beautiful box and dates to c.1830.
